Welcome New Subscribers.  I'm writing you from Sanibel Island, FL as the rain gushes out of the sky.  Alberto has given us a tiny taste of what hurricanes are like.  My new husband John and I are here supporting an ill family member.  Looking at life, through fragile health, offers perspective.

This week's features...

Abundance Abounds:  The Compounding Effect of Starbucks (and other innocent spending).  I'm not a numbers person, but John Mathias is.  John is a client,  participant in my Success and Inner Peace Bootcamp, my accountant, and friend.  He's also writing a book called, "1001 Bytes Everyone Should Know About the Market."  One of the questions (and answer he provided) opened my eyes WIDE.  This seemed like the perfect article to share in this week's issue.Magic Moments: Wedding Moments.    Thanks to my AMAZING photographer Fima Gelman and his team, there are literally dozens of magic moments to share from our wedding on May 5th.  Before the ceremony, John and I did a photo shoot with Fima. Walking past the tennis courts, someone got the idea of "playing tennis."  Being in my wedding dress and all, I resisted -- at first. Surrendering to this crazy idea, created a few magic moments.  See below.

The Compounding Effect of Starbucks (and other trivial spending)

The following question was answered by John M. Mathias.  He is currently writing a book called, 1001 Bytes Everyone Should Know About the Market.  It illustrates the "compounding effect" of choice in a rather eye-opening way.  A little reality check for all of us wanting to accumulate larger sums of cash."My boyfriend says I spend too much money at Starbucks. What kind of an effect does drinking two Café Mochas a day have?"

This is a great opportunity to let numbers just flow as only numbers can. Numbers are neutral and can not judge the value or benefits of coffee. But, when you place a dollar sign in front of a number, sometimes they just disappear like socks in a dryer.

A grande (medium) café mocha in San Jose costs $3.30. Drinking two mochas a day costs $6.60 times 5 days a week equals $33 per week. If you include Saturday and Sunday it costs $46.20 per week. And, if we drink our mochas all year long, for 365 days, we have spent $2,409. Finally, if we are long-term planners, and if Starbucks does not raise their price in the near future we will have spent a cool $12,045 on coffee over a five year period.

If you go back 1 year to May 9, 2005 and had purchased $2,409 or 92.26 shares of Starbucks' stock for $26.11, your shares would be worth $3,598 today, a 34% increase in value.

It's probably not about the coffee anyway. I stop for coffee, not to procrastinate from getting to work, but to get an early guaranteed smile and because it is part of my routine. It gives me a positive experience, like tying a perfect Windsor knot, before sliding into work and responsibility.

What if you smoke two packs of Marlboro 100's a day?

Marlboro Light cigarettes cost $4.32 including tax per pack in Long's Drugs in San Jose. The sign said they were on special for a limited time. Smoking two packs a day would cost $8.64 times seven days a week equals $60.48 per week. It would cost a smoker $3,144.96 per year. Over a five year period, a two-pack-a-day habit would cost $15,724.80, just over a thousand dollars more than the 2006 Ford F-100 pick up.

If you smoked and drank mochas you would have spent $27,769.80 over a five year period which is the price of a 2006 Toyota 4-Runner or Toyota Avalon.

What if you drank a bottle of Chardonnay every night with dinner?

Meridian Chardonnay is a medium cost, high production wine that retails for $9.99 at Safeway. If you buy six bottles of wine, you get a 10% discount. If you buy a case of wine, you get a 15% discount. Wines go on sale often and the prices vary in both directions.

The Meridian would cost 75.70 (including tax) over a seven day period and $324.42 over a thirty day period. This cool buttery drink would cost $3,960.25 per year and an intoxicating $19,801.25 over five years.

If you smoked two packs of Marlboro 100's, drank two Starbuck Café Mochas for breakfast and had a bottle of Meridian Chardonnay with dinner it would cost you approximately $9,514.21 per year and $47,571 over five years.

What if you had two kids or.Okay. We get the point.Article by John Miller Mathias.

Magic Moments:  Tennis and Wedding Dresses - Why not?  Three hours before our wedding ceremony, John and I did a photo shoot with our beloved photographer, Fima Gelman. Walking past the tennis courts, someone got the idea of "playing tennis."  Right then.  Being in my wedding dress and all, I resisted -- at first.  I don't really consider myself a tennis player.  But, I'm a "go with the flow" kind of girl, and it seemed like the thing to do. There were two men playing who eagerly gave up their rackets for the gal in the white beaded wedding gown, and the dude in the tux.  Fortunately, Fima captured this first shot, RIGHT BEFORE John hit the ball in his face!! (oops!).  Notice where the ball is heading...(photo below)

And, yes...this was an authentic swing (BELOW)
-- a very nice shot by the bride.  Great racket!
Maybe I really can play tennis?  I did have my "whites" on.  Magical things happen when you surrender to the moment.

Some of our friends brought some champagne out to the courts after watching our fanatics on the court.
