The outer world is a reflection of our inner world. Those parts of ourselves that we "don't like" or "repress" about ourselves are considered our "shadow." When we try not to be a certain quality, it is much like trying to hold a beach ball under the water.  Those qualities that we "repress" or "don't like" ultimately come to the surface for us to explore and embrace. There is a 3 Part Process in Shadow Work: 1) Acknowledge it - Awareness is the first key.  Acknowledge that something creates a charge for you. 2) Accept it - Own that YOU have this quality inside of you. 3) EMBRACE it - This is where the healing happens.  At this level, you have compassion for yourself, feel the wholeness, and have forgiven yourself fully for suppressing this part of yourself.  If you are EXAGGERATING your self-importance or MINIMIZING yourself, these are indicators that the "shadow" is present. Are you INFORMED or AFFECTED by external information?  When we are "affected" there is usually a "shadow" side to explore. Debbie demonstrated how to explore "the shadow" as I shared my experience of getting my own buttons pushed last weekend - and feeling DISRESPECTED.  I learned that I was actually "disrespecting" myself by not speaking up in the moment I felt disrespected.  Listen to the call for more details. The People-pleasing Syndrome - When we make someone else's desires more important than ourselves, and may be violating ourselves in some way.  This can often lead to resentment.   When we're not in INTEGRITY with ourselves we don't like ourselves. Shadow work IS NOT about changing other people, it's about doing your own inner work.  If you think someone isn't "getting it," the question is, "what am I NOT getting?" Our "light shadow" are positive qualities that we haven't fully owned within ourselves.  Integrity Anchors - What we MUST do every day to honor our integrity (see more in Best Year of Your Life) The Right Questions: There are 10 in Debbie's book.  Here are a few of my favorite ones. 1)  Will this choice bring me long-term commitment or short-term gratification? 2)  Am I standing in my power or am I trying to please another? 3) Am I looking for what's right or what's wrong? 4) Does this choice empower me or does it disempower me?
