Empowering EnvironmentsVirus Alert. We've all had our share of computer viruses.  Through my own experiences, and through the guidance of an expert friend, my education about the world of viruses has expanded.  This week is about "empowering your computer" environment and keeping you safe in our virtual world.  Because having viruses zaps fulfillment, and a "virus free" computer adds to a fulfilling life. Magic Moment - Hummingbirds are like "thoughts".Love, Joy and Peace,MaryMary Allen, CPCC, PCC

Truth-Telling Game

Intimacy is one of the most fulfilling aspects of relating with another. In opening oneself and revealing your innermost thoughts to another creates intimacy, understanding and deepens any relationship. The feeling of "being known" and "knowing another" authentically is fulfilling. One fun way to stir up the intimacy quotient is by playing the "Truth-Telling Game". It's simple and easy, but not for the faint of heart.  It's about connecting to your truth in the moment, and then sharing that with another. It can be played at any time by simply asking, "What's your truth?" And, it's a great way to connect with yourself, "What's MY truth?". The biggest key is to find the truth in your heart, not your head. That's the difference between a "soul response" versus an "ego response". The soul won't lie, but our egos make up all kinds of crazy nonsense. Go for the heart's truth. Then be open and ready for anything.

It's important to note, that "your truth", isn't always "the truth".  We may perceive situations inaccurately. That's not bad.  It's simply what is so.  "Be with" whatever is so, your "truth" in the moment, or your partner's "truth" in the moment is neither "good" nor "bad".  The truth can be messy at times. However, just "being with" another's truth is healing and supportive.  Understanding, compassion, curiosity and love are useful tools to support you in this 'game of truth'.  In speaking your truth - others can respond and clarify.  Also, when we speak the truth about emotions, we're more easily able to "let them go".  When you say "your truth is feeling sad", just saying that begins the process of releasing it.  And, as each "truth" is spoken to, you can dig for deeper and deeper "truths".  And, as the saying goes, "the truth will set you free".

VIRUS ALERTS

If you're computer savvy this may be "old news" for you, and you can skip this article.  However, I still see many of my friends innocently contracting computer viruses...as I have in the past.  I wish I'd had this list a year ago.  Below I've assembled the "checklist" that has helped me stay "virus free".  Some of these things weren't apparent to me until someone told me specifically.  With a little shared wisdom, we can all remain "virus free". 1.  Attachments - Anything with an attachment is cause for caution, especially if from an unknown user.  The following three letters are usually indicative of a virus.  Simply delete.  Do not ever open.  Even if it's from someone you know...the following attachments are almost always a virus in disguise.

* .pif
*.exe
*. scr

2.  Zip files -
Unless you were expecting a zip file from someone specifically, a file ending in ".zip" is likely a threat.  Delete.  Do not open.

3.  Notices from Microsoft.
I got suckered into this one.  As my friend Steve says, "Microsoft will NEVER send you upgrades, downloads or patches via email".  This is one of the prevalent ways viruses spread, because we think we're "trusting" Microsoft...but, it's not Microsoft.  ONLY download directly from the real Microsoft website.

4.  Unusual names - This almost goes without saying, but it's worth mentioning again because fancy taglines can "con us".   If you don't know the sender AND there is an attachment.  Simply, don't open it.  Delete it.  Better safe, than sorry. 4.  Domain expirations - I've gotten numerous versions of this one, and it's mostly irritating. It appears to be from my domain name host -  admin@lifecoachmary.com - with a zip file.  The message is as follows:

Hello there,

I would like to inform you about important information regarding your email address. This email address will be expiring. Please read attachment for details.

Best regards, Administrator
esjegwig

Again, delete and disregard. 5.  Virus Hoax - Occasionally, email messages attempt to scare the masses by describing a virus, and suggesting you perform a fix immediately.  BEFORE innocently following those instructions, run a search on Google or Yahoo for the name of that virus.  Symantec or other virus software company will have reports on the hoaxes, as well as the real viruses.  A thirty second check let's you know if it's "real" or a "hoax". PREVENTATIVE SOLUTIONS Unfortunately, part of being on-line is being exposed to all of the above.  Here are four simple tips to protect yourself, and empower you against future viruses. 1.  Awareness.  Simply pay attention to the above notes...particularly attachments with a *.pif's, *.exe's, and *.scr's, and CALMLY DELETE them as they come in.    2. Accept that viruses are just part of our computer experience. No need to get upset.  If you're ever unsure, don't open it! 3.  Virus software - Arm yourself with McAfee or Norton Anti-Virus software.  Make sure you're protected.

4.  Mozilla Browser - About four months ago, I had Mozilla installed on my computer.  It's like Internet Explorer with a built-in Email Inbox.  Most viruses can't penetrate this browser.  Mozilla also has a great feature that allows you to identify incoming mail from senders as "JUNK", so you don't have to see "repeat offenders".

HUMMINGBIRD MAGIC - An abundance of hummingbird visitors flock my balcony daily. At lunchtime I often eat my scrumptious salad outside, watching the hummingbirds playfully coming and going.  They are beautiful, fascinating and magical creatures.  So tiny.  So fast.  They quickly come in, make their presence known... engage with the feeder in a brief moment of stillness, then instantly zip into thin air.  They buzz in, play, tease each other, and zoom around - giving me a delightful personal show each day.I couldn't help to think how much hummingbirds are like "thoughts".   Coming and going in our minds, with only BRIEF, BRIEF, BRIEF moments of stillness.  Our minds are constantly moving with thoughts, just like these tiny birds.  They come in and out, in and out, in and out - all day long.  If we simply noticed our thoughts like we watch hummingbirds -- we could simply allow them to come and go.  Appreciating them without judgment.  It's when we get attached to a "thought" that we run into trouble.  If we allow "thoughts" to be a free to dance as hummingbirds, we'd all be a little more peaceful. And, while those hummingbirds are fun to watch zipping through the air...they are even more precious in those brief moments of stillness.  Just as it is blissful to have those "brief moments of stillness" in our minds.
