Inner Peace to You Today...and Always.

Can you believe it's already September?! Just like that...the year is zipping by. I have some big news today. Plus, I'm sharing a new video on a "favorite:" Veggies Smoothies.

It has been a rather surreal week for me. A mixed bag of emotions...from high's to low's and back again. No doubt a test of my inner peace. Do you ever wish you could skip just a few of these tests?

Over the last few days, I had to make a difficult decision. You've probably seen the buzz building for my upcoming Inner Peace Immersion Retreat scheduled for October 3-10th, 2009. Well unfortunately, I had to reschedule this retreat. (((Sigh.)))

What a joy to receive email after email from subscribers, clients and colleagues expressing how the Inner Peace Immersion Retreat is resonating so deeply with their souls. Many registered with enthusiasm. My support team was also over-flowing with excitement. YET, because of the short notice, 6 Day/7 Night commitment and some financial situations (gotta "love" this economy), many more people reluctantly shared they'd have to attend the NEXT event.

Thus, even with the stellar turnout for my Preview Call last Tuesday (thank you!), and sign-ups rolling in...I had to give myself a serious "reality check." While I could've muscled through to fill the remaining spaces, there is no question it would've cost me tremendous time, energy and inner peace. Time, energy and inner peace I needed to channel toward final preparations. I simply couldn't do both...and still maintain my sanity (which you know I value tremendously!)

But...the good news is...the NEXT retreat dates are now set for... October 23 - 30th, 2010. This gives me ample time to get the word out. This gives YOU ample time to carve these dates into your schedule, well in advance.

BTW, I've created a few "notes to self" about this learning experience.

#1) If you're offering a live multi-day event, beginning serious marketing efforts just 7 weeks before the event is cutting it close and will hamper one's inner peace (of course I knew that...but...)

#2) August isn't the best month to begin marketing anything, especially if it's new. This is a good month to go on vacation.

All that being said, I am simultaneously grateful for this "imperfect" launch. While it would've been easier to delay plans back in July...I would not be where I am today. I wouldn't have completed the "invitation." I wouldn't have the wisdom of this experience. And the retreat would still just be a maybe-someday "idea" to procrastinate about. Launching inspired me into the world of video, created fabulous "buzz," and gave me yet another opportunity to "walk my talk" of inner peace -- in a rather public way.

Amazing how the world delivers gifts at every juncture. In the next few weeks, you'll begin to see what gets "born" into this new space. I'm more committed than ever to helping YOU expand your "everyday inner peace!"

Instead of glossing over this "news," I decided to take the path of "transparency." Let's here it for imperfect action and altering one's course as needed.

Veggie Smoothies: The Breakfast of Champions by Mary Allen

Veggie Smoothies?

I know. It doesn't sound instantly appealing.

But, it does scream, "healthy, healthy, healthy!", doesn't it?

I stumbled upon veggie smoothies through the fabulous world of social media. One day, while recovering from a minor surgery, I asked my Twitter friends what the best vegetables were to juice to help me heal more quickly. @Revell of http://www.revvellations.com, @HeleneLaurence of http://www.harmonyloft.com and @sunkitchen of http://www.lifecyclevideo.com all chimed in - and my education began.  First, I learned, it is the "greens" which are most healing... parsley, cilantro, cucumber, celery, kale, etc.

Our exchanges lead to learning a new abbreviation... GS.

GS = Green Smoothie.

I prefer to call them "Veggie Smoothies" - sounds even healthier to me, without focusing on the green color :roll:

Instead of "juicing" vegetables... you simply throw all the vegetables into the trusted blender (Vitamix is the best!), and flip the switch (with the lid on, of course!)

THREE advantages of Veggie Smoothies over Juicing:

1) You get ALL the nutrition and fiber. Nothing to throw in the garbage or disposal.

2) Faster to prepare. Simply chop and toss in your blender (it doesn't have to fit into the juicing slot.)

3) Clean up is WAY easier than a juicer.

In an effort to boost my nutrition and increase vegetable intake, after sitting on this wisdom for several months, I started making veggie smoothies.

Now, I'm addicted.

My "inner peace quotient" isn't quite the same without my morning "Veggie Smoothie." Knowing I've fueled my body with nutrients leaves me feeling fabulous about myself. I launch my day with energy. And, it's the FASTEST way to ensure I'm getting my vegetables.  I love salads, but they do take longer to prepare - and even longer to consume (lots of chewing involved, ya know?)

It also ensures everything, ah, uh, er "keeps moving."  You know what I mean?  I'm talking about BM's or Bowel Movements. Nothing interrupts my inner peace more than being constipated :cry: .  In fact, the more inner peace takes a nose-dive, the harder it can be to "keep things moving."

Not a pretty conversation. But, it's true, isn't it?

Well, Veggie Smoothies help.  A LOT. :-D

Are you getting inspired to make a Veggie Smoothie?

Here's the combination I like best.

Mary's Veggie Smoothie

1/2 cucumber
1/2 red pepper
1/2 lemon
1/4 avocado
1 celery stick
1 carrot
Handful of parsley
Handful of cilantro

Chop coarsely, and toss in your blender.  Then add about 1 cup of liquid (either water or apple juice).  I also add an optional 1 teaspoon of lemon flavored fish oil (for Omega 3's).  Occasionally I throw in a few dried cranberries. Lately, I'm tossing in 1 scoops of Jay Robb's Vanilla Protein Powder (from Egg Whites).

NOTES: The apple and lemon hide any of the "green" flavor.  I do find it plenty sweet with simply water.  So, if you're watching your sugar intake, go with water only. The sugar from the apple, carrot and red bell pepper is plenty! My preference is organic whenever possible. And lately...Farmer's Market!

If you run out of a particular vegetable, it still works.  Mix and match the vegetables suits your taste, but remember the greens are what brings the BEST nutrition. I've also added tomatoes, arugula, cabbage, and mixed green salad.  I also tried wheat grass a couple times, but WHEW... be careful, it'll give you a jolt like caffeine if there is too much!
